This is exactly what it’s going to take for the USA to lead a coalition of the West to fight a world war against China and the rest of the anti-imperialists

Given how fragile the political situation in the west is already, I can’t imagine that further austerity to fund more wars is going to go down well.

Doing underestimate the depravity of the North Atlantic, a civilization built entirely on fear

Material conditions have primacy though. The abstract fear of Russia has to compete with tangible inability to put food on the table.

Need I point you to WW2 and the failure of Comintern to convince any meaningfully powerful movement in Western Europe to adopt revolutionary defeatism?

Sure, but we’re not talking about Europe becoming communist here. What’s happening is that we’re seeing rise of nationalism and a slide towards fascism. What I expect to happen is that the neoliberal centre is going to collapse, and the EU will split back into individual states that are going to be doing ladder pulling. NATO is entirely incompatible with that.

There is going to be a war launched against China that the USA will lead and it is currently trying to figure out which countries will support the war effort and which will resist. NATO may end up being an occupying force in Europe to discipline any country that doesn’t support the USA’s belligerence, and NATO will certainly provide sufficient cover for collaborative war activities like recruiting soldiers from Europe, deploying them to hot spots, and occupying resistance nations for “peacekeeper” missions.

I am genuinely concerned that we are running towards the big one.

Given how the decoupling trial balloon went with the tariffs, I just don’t see how they plan to launch a war against China. It’s pretty clear that US economy will collapse within a couple of months. Meanwhile, I’m sure the US would love to have NATO as a disciplinary force in Europe, but you just have to look at what’s happening in Germany, France, UK, and Romania to see where things are headed. Right wing nationalists are rapidly becoming the most popular bloc in these countries and all of them are against the EU and NATO. I just don’t see how EU center can keep a lid on this going forward. Meanwhile, the trade war with the US is only making the situation worse.
